Lucy was found in an abandoned house in the depths of winter with her newborn puppies. In spite of all her efforts to keep them warm and safe, three of them didn’t survive the cold. But Lucy and her lucky 3 remaining pups were rescued just a day or two after birth. She traveled to Minnesota and raised her puppies to be lovely, sweet, independent pups, ready for homes of their own. And now Lucy is ready to start the next chapter in her life too!
Lucy is a sweet soul. Motherhood has mellowed her and she goes with the flow. Everyone is her friend, human, or beast. She has always loved other dogs; even when her pups were smaller she had no concerns with the presence of other dogs. But she absolutely ADORES the cat – she wiggles all over and just can’t stop licking him every time she sees him, much to his dismay. She loves every person she’s met, and can get pushy when she needs a good snuggle. She hangs out by herself a lot, just relaxing around the house, but if anyone is getting attention, she wants to get in on that. She loves to lick your face, especially if she missed you. She enjoys a good pig ear now and then and eats her food with gusto. She mostly carries toys to her bed to keep her company, but hasn’t figured out how to play with them yet. But she does love a good game of bitey-face with the resident dogs! She may also take ownership of random items (boots, gloves, hats) and take them to bed with her, but has never chewed them or caused any damage – they are just good friends that were lonely and needed some love.
Although she misses you when you leave, she has no concerns with being left alone, and does just fine being confined to a room or left to roam the house when left alone and overnight. She goes in a crate voluntarily to hang out, but there has been no need to confine her in a crate. She will bark occasionally if the other dogs are barking at something, but not often or long. For housetraining, she is bullet-proof – she has never had an accident in the house and can hold it for quite a while. She will go lay quietly by the door if she wants to go out. She has shown no resource guarding with people or dogs for food, toys or bones. You want it? You can have it!
She LOVES a good long walk with lots and lots to sniff and explore. She can pull on the leash when she really wants to get somewhere, but does better with a harness and she is responding well to correction and guidance. She has some energy and would love to be able to race around a fenced yard, but that isn’t required if some good long walks can be given. Lucy does get distracted by animals in the yard, but most especially deer. She’d love to give one a good chase! So she should be in a fenced yard or leashed.
She is super smart and learns the household rules and patterns very quickly. She responds really well to a quiet ‘ah-ah’, or ‘no’; she wants to please, and doesn’t need a dramatic or harsh correction. She will do really well learning new things and going to some structured training – she will really love some one on one time with her human.
Lucy is an amazingly gentle, kind and loving dog. She deserves to be doted on, spoiled and loved on now for the rest of her life. Looking for someone with just a little room in their hearts for a sweetie with the biggest heart in the world to love you back.
